Local self-advocate Matthew Bloodsworth has been named 2016 Texas Advocate of the Year by the Texas Advocates. 

The Texas Advocates is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fight unfair treatment and advocate for more and better services and support for people with disabilities so they can be included in their communities. They are recognized as the leader in self-advocacy in Texas.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.

Police in Orange arrested a local man for public intoxication after responding to a call reporting someone standing in the middle of John Street with no shirt on Aug. 15, reports the Orange Police Department.

Two pools of mosquitoes on Beaumont's north end tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The first pool was collected on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Carnegie Avenue and Tyler Street. A second pool was collected at Cable Avenue near I-10, reports Kevin Sexton, director of Jefferson County Mosquito Control District. They have been confirmed positive by the Texas Department of Health in Austin.

"This is not unexpected with the hot and dry weather we had for the last month. Because of the recent heavy rains throughout the area it is probably less of a threat now," Sexton said.

Jerry Wayne Adaway, 58, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, is now in custody after being captured on August 9 in Houston. Adaway was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender. The arrest was not the result of a tip, and no reward will be paid.
