Three kilos of heroin

A traffic stop by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy yielded a significant payload of heroin early Monday, Feb. 13.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, a deputy stopped a GMC SUV for an obscured license plate in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the 843 mile marker.

But when the officer approached the driver, the press release said he seemed "extremely nervous."

When officers asked the driver where he was coming from and where he was headed, police say the driver told a tall tale.
