Kelly High School’s Youth-Leadership Southeast Texas (Y-LSET) Team has partnered with Leadership Southeast Texas and West Brook High School’s Y-LSET Team to collect used bicycles for veterans. The program was designed to fulfill military veterans’ requests for bicycles to help them seek and maintain employment. All donations will benefit Jefferson County veterans and their families.

A Jefferson County jury found a 42-year-old Vidor man guilty of methamphetamine possession stemming from a February 2015 arrest related to drug activity at a local motel. 

In a press release, District Attorney Bob Wortham announced that a jury of the Drug Impact Court found Houston Gene Freeman guilty of possession of methamphetamine of at least 4 grams and less than 200 grams, a second-degree felony charge.

Global warming and the current intense El Niño are prolonging the longest global coral die-off on record, according to NOAA scientists, who will will present the latest global bleaching update and outlook Friday, Feb. 26 at the 2016 Ocean Sciences Meeting in New Orleans.

The researchers, who are monitoring and forecasting the loss of corals from disease and heat stress due to record ocean temperatures, report that the global coral bleaching event that started in 2014 could extend well into 2017.
