The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur held a free wildlife extravaganza and children’s art show on Saturday, Oct. 8. This family fun day was held to celebrate a new wildlife art exhibit featuring pieces from Houston artist Vickie McMillan and Port Arthur artist Albert Faggard.

At approximately 2:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a two vehicle crash on US 69 in Hardin County. The crash occurred approximately one mile south of Highway 327.

A 2004 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on US 69. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 69. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the center dividing line and struck the Chevrolet pickup truck head-on.

This summer, the Texas Action for Healthy Kids recognized the Little Cypress Intermediate School as a “school of success” for their new inclusive playground Stay and Play.

The recognition was based off their year-end report, submitted in a grant to fundraise for Stay and Play.

The playground is handicap accessible and includes components for autistic children and a rubberized cushioned surface.

The Museum of the Gulf Coast is opening its doors to Port Arthur third-graders throughout the months of October and December. In addition to touring the museum, each child will receive their very own dictionary, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Port Arthur and Motiva.

The Beaumont Bulls executive board forfeited the season after the suspension of Coach Rah-Rah Barber, who led the Bulls’ kneeling protests beginning Sept. 10. The executive board says that after his suspension, Barber moved to another league, taking many players with him, forcing the forfeiture, but Barber says this is untrue.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a possible attempt at voter fraud following their receipt of information from the County Clerk's office that an individual requested an election ballot for a deceased person, reports Deputy Marcus McLellan.

In order to make it even easier for tipsters to anonymously provide Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas information about fugitives, crimes and potential crimes, Crime Stoppers is now offering an app for mobile phones. 

"There are three ways people can provide tips now," Crime Stoppers Chair Larry Crumpton said. "We're rolling out a new app that people can download on their phones, which keeps their anonymity completely intact and still allows them to collect a reward."
