No April Fools jokes here. Sports fans in Southeast Texas will be ecstatic to know that beginning on April 1 at 6 a.m., Cumulus Media will officially launch Sports Radio 1450 — the newest and only sports station in the market.

Sports Radio 1450 AM will provide around-the-clock sports coverage from experienced broadcasters and feature high-profile personalities and utilize resources of CBS Radio, include stepping inside “The Jungle” with Jim Rome. Wait, that’s not all.

Port Arthur Mayor Delores “Bobbie” Prince and city manager Floyd Johnson presented resident Thressal Lorraine Prevost with the key to her new home at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, March 27, at 1 p.m. The event took place at Prevost’s newly built four-bedroom, two-bathroom house on 14th Street in Port Arthur.

County Judge Carl Thibodeaux declared April 2013 as “Southeast Texas Big Read” month in Orange County at the commissioners court special meeting Monday, March 25. Orange Public Library director of services Mary J. McCoy appeared before the court and accepted the honor on behalf of Orange County. According to the proclamation, the Big Read endeavor is meant to encourage reading in the area.

China native and rodeo star Beau Schroeder was airlifted to Las Vegas after an accident at the Fort Mojave Classic Xtreme Bulls event Sunday, March 24, in Fort Mojave, Ariz., left him with two collapsed lungs and a torn trachea, according to Punkee Schroeder, Beau’s father.

A town hall meeting Saturday, March 23, at the American Legion Post 49 on Green Avenue was intended by organizers to be a meeting presenting both sides of the controversy over a proposed memorial that would display more than 20 Confederate flags including the infamous battle flag and would be visible from Interstate 10. It turned into a very one-sided affair, however, when no one from the organization Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) showed up to speak their piece.
