Lamar University is hosting a Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Setzer Student Center, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students will learn about the opportunities and the benefits of studying abroad. Faculty members will be present to share about the many faculty-led programs available at LU. Students who studied abroad last year will also attend to share their experiences.

The Theodore Johns Branch Library will host a free Concert on the Lawn featuring folk singer and guitar player Cameron Sutphin on Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 2 p.m. Organizers say bring lawn chairs, beach towels or blankets. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol is permitted on city property.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, DPS troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 90 and Turner Road in China, Texas. Three people were transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at approximately 1 p.m., there was a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 at the Simmons Drive exit in Orange County.

According to a press release, a 2007 Chevrolet passenger vehicle was eastbound on Interstate 10. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet took the Simmons Drive exit (mile marker 878) at a high rate of speed and lost control. The vehicle went down the exit ramp in a side skid, continued over a curb, and struck a metal beam.

This week, Crime Stoppers needs the public’s help locating five of Beaumont’s most wanted drug dealers.

Timothy Joseph Aubrey is a 34-year-old black male, 5-feet-10 and 150 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and several tattoos. Aubrey is wanted for delivery of a controlled substance and has a $1 million bond.

HOUSTON—The owner and operator of Elite P Care Medical Services has been convicted of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and health care fraud in a $1 million fraud scheme, announced United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson. Verona Spicer, 46, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Kenneth Hoyt.

A structure fire at 2394 Angelina Street in Beaumont was reported by a passerby at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.

According to a press release, when firefighters with the Beaumont Fire Department arrived, smoke was billowing from the roof vents of a garage apartment. Upon entering the upstairs apartment, firefighters noticed the fire was coming from the attic. The flames were quickly extinguished and damage was confined to the area just above the bathroom.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, there was a two-vehicle crash on FM 92 at Gore Store Road between Fred and Silsbee in Hardin County. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a truck tractor semi-trailer.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, the Texas Department of Public Safety was notified of a plane crash near Dam B in Martin Dies State Park about 8 miles west of Jasper, Texas. 

According to a press release, a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft (N4151Q) was en route to Louisiana before crash landing near Damn B in Martin Dies State Park. According to the pilot, the aircraft ran out of fuel.

On Monday, October 5, 2015, at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Port Arthur Police Department received a report of an aggravated robbery at 2015 W. Hwy 73, at a hotel known as the Three Rivers Inn and Suites.

According to a press release, the clerk told responding officers that a black male entered the business brandishing a handgun, which he used to threaten the clerk. The suspect was able to obtain an undetermined amount of cash from the register of the business. He then fled in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured during the incident.
