Samaritan Counseling Services held its second annual “Shoot Benefiting the Children” clay shoot event at 1-in-100 Gun Club in Lumberton on Saturday, Feb. 9. According to Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas Executive Director Tracy Williams, 36 shooters participated in the event, which earned close to $7,000 for children services for the center. About 30 volunteers also showed up at the event from various local organizations.

Orange Police received a call about another burglary in a series of break-ins plaguing the city.

While attempting to stop a driver for a traffic violation in Orange, police were led on a car chase ending in an accident and an arrest Saturday, Feb. 9.

According to Orange County Deputy Martin Gaskin at the scene of an accident Monday morning, Feb. 11, around 9:30 a.m., a woman veered off the road in Rose City and crashed into a guardrail. The young woman at the scene said she lost control when her car hydroplaned on the westbound Interstate 10 access road near the Asher Turnaround. She said she was unhurt.

Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, and Peanut Butter Patties are back! It’s that time of year again, and Girl Scouts locally and across the country are selling their famous cookies. Saturday, Feb. 9, at around 9 a.m., local Girl Scouts from the Spindletop and Big Thicket service areas received a delivery of 60,000 cookies at Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont.

Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain announced Feb. 8 that his office charged two people with intent to manufacture a controlled substance after executing a search warrant at 6650 Orchid, in Lumberton on Jan. 28.

A motorist in the 250 block of the westbound Interstate 10 service road near Green Man Recycling in Vidor lost control of her vehicle and struck a highway construction warning sign on Friday morning, Feb. 8. A state trooper at the scene said the driver was on her cellular phone near the time when the accident occurred. The driver was able to walk away from the one-vehicle accident without serious injury, but westbound I-10 traffic slowed to a crawl.
