At the Children's Holiday Museum Party and Tree Lighting at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Santa arrived in the the new Beaumont Fire & Rescue ladder truck. The annual event ended with Santa lighting the Children's Tree at 6 p.m. The event has been hosted by area museums, the Tyrrell Library, local attractions, Beaumont Main Street and local tourism agencies for over 15 years.

When Jerry Marshall, 50, of Mauriceville made an agreement with his three sons that he would join the Vidor Taekwondo academy if all three boys earned their black belts, his sons never thought he would actually go through with it.

“I thought he was just talking,” Nathan Marshall said.

Nathan, Justin and Luke Marshall started Taekwondo training in 2006 and were black belts within two years.

Three days after a 14-year-old Beaumont Independent School District student was reported missing from the Ozen High School campus, her mother reports the child is now home.

Shavoner Wilson told The Examiner she found her daughter, 14-year-old daughter, Marchelle Washington, Friday, Nov. 30, with the help of a neighborhood informant. Washington had been missing since Nov. 27.

Through the generous support of Linda and Joe Penland, 43 medically underserved women received “Gift of Life” clinical breast exams at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Kountze on Nov. 28, with mammograms scheduled at the church in early December.

The upcoming session of the Texas Legislature presents challenges for those who have a stake in the future of delivery of services to people who have mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or substance abuse issues. On the table are possible cuts to funding of programs that help many people in Southeast Texas.

Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) electrical contractor Calvin Walker must again report before a federal judge to answer allegations he bilked the school district and the federal government out of millions of dollars. He is scheduled to appear in Beaumont’s federal courthouse Dec. 12. Walker is expected to take a plea deal, but paperwork filed at the court earlier this week changes the scope of the deal.

Although missing in action from his superintendent duties at the Port Arthur Independent School District (PAISD) for more than a month now, Dr. Johnny Brown made an appearance in a Jefferson County court Dec. 5.

Police are asking the community’s help in finding the whereabouts of David Dewayne Disomba, a 21-year-old Port Arthur man wanted for Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Kidnapping and Evading Arrest, among other charges.

The Anayat House celebrated a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, for it’s new facility at 1025 14th St. in Beaumont. Anayat House staff, board members and the community gathered together to memorialize the event.
