Jefferson County commissioners approved a two-year contract with ConMed Healthcare Management Inc. for inmate health care services at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility at their meeting Jan. 22. The initial contract period is from Jan. 29, 2013, to Jan. 28, 2015, with an option to renew for three additional one-year terms.

Those efforts have been honored by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), which has bestowed its Physician IT Leadership Award on Holly.

The Orange City Council approved a three-year extension to the city’s contract with Acadian Ambulance Service and discussed pending litigation regarding former Orange Police Captain Robert Arnold at its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 22.

With a vote of approval from City Council members Tuesday, Jan 22, city staff now have at least 45 more dangerous structures marked for demolition in Beaumont.

The approval comes at a busy time for Community Development Director Chris Boone, who said the city has budgeted more tax dollars from the city’s General Fund to demolish or enroll in a work program some 300 “tagged properties” the city has deemed substandard.

After a string of bank robberies in Southeast Texas, three in one week, police have arrested a man they say is responsible for at least two of the robberies.

An Orange resident was the victim of a burglary Tuesday. Orange Police responded to a call regarding a burglary at 110 Schley Ave. on Jan. 23 at about 3:21 p.m. The victim reported his door had been kicked in sometime between 6 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 22. The man told police he was out and when he returned home he found his back door had been kicked in. Approximately $750 in property was missing from the residence, including a gold chain and a Sony Playstation 3.
