The City of Port Arthur will once again host the Annual Cultural Lighted Holiday Parade Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 starting at 6 p.m. The parade route is down Procter Street to Houston Avenue.

All vehicles will enter the Performing Arts parking lot at Lamar State College-Port Arthur from Lakeshore Drive.

Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at about 12:41 a.m., Beaumont police responded to the 2700 block of Avenue and found two deceased victims suffering from gunshot wounds. In an effort to maintain the integrity of the investigation, limited information is available at this time. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information about this crime to call Beaumont Police at 409.832.1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409.833.TIPS (8477)

Detectives are not releasing the identity of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.


The City of Pinehurst Police Department received two grants from the Texas Department of Transportation(TxDOT) for their recent participation in the 2016 Labor Day incentive and their participation in both the Memorial Day and Labor Day incentive programs. 


A rollover caused delays this morning on US 69 in Hardin County. The accident on US 69 near Cooks Lake Road was reported this morning around 6:40 a.m., DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis said in a release.

A 2006 Ford truck was traveling southbound on US 69 in Hardin County, according to initial reports mentioned in the statement. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rollover.

After it was printed, many of the events in the Entertainment section of this week’s Examiner have been canceled and, in some cases, rescheduled due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the area Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3-4.

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce has postponed its Christmas Light Parade until Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. 

The Kiwanis Club has announced that the annual Orange Christmas Parade scheduled for Friday, has been postponed to Friday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.

The first of this November’s newly elected officials will be installed this coming week as Judge Terrence Holmes is set to be confirmed by the County Commissioners Court on Monday, Dec. 5, to finish out the unexpired term of office in Jefferson County Court at Law No. 2. 

Judges in Jefferson County normally serve four-year terms, but Holmes is set to serve through December 2018.

The seat was vacated by the passing of longtime Judge Lupe Flores early in 2015, and has been under the leadership of Judge Cory Crenshaw in the interim.


The Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas hosted its inaugural World AIDS Day prayer breakfast in the Spindletop Community Room on the hospital campus at 740 Hospital Drive on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The prayer breakfast brought together both faith and community leaders to “bring awareness of the needs of our citizens currently infected, affected, or vulnerable to HIV” and “honor lives lost,” according to a release.

The United States Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit has upheld a jury decision that awarded $2.5 million in damages against Orange County for the wrongful death of an inmate held in the county jail’s detention “bubble” for days on end as the mentally ill man died of renal failure in a pool of uneaten jail food and human waste.

Ivory P, 36, a Beaumont rapper and a signee of the late Pimp C’s UGK label, was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with law enforcement officers following a high-speed car chase Nov. 22, reports the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). After the shooting, the Beaumont Police Department released information implicating Ivory P, whose real name is Ivory C.
