Two men went to the emergency room after someone fired at them with a shotgun Sunday, Jan. 27 in Orange.

According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the agency has identified and arrested three adults and one juvenile involved in a Mid-County burglary ring. The arrests were the result of collaboration between the JCSO and the police departments of Nederland and Groves.

Saturday, Jan. 26, at 8:24 p.m., BPD patrol officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 3200 block of Ogden. A person called dispatch and said three people broke into a vacant house. Officers set up a perimeter and searched the house. Inside, officers located Hakeem M. Richard, 23, and Kerria Washington, 17, both from Beaumont. The third person was able to flee before officers could set up the perimeter.

Police arrested 35-year-old Jessica Bush of Orange after a call regarding a shoplifting incident resulted in the discovery of more than 150 prescription pills illegally in the woman’s possession, Orange Police Department (OPD) reported.

Seven dogs are confirmed dead in Mauriceville from some type of poisoning.

On January 23, 2013 the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call concerning a dog that had been possibly poisoned in the Greenwood Acres Subdivision in Mauriceville.

FEMA representatives visited Orange and Jefferson counties last week to discuss preliminary flood maps for the areas. Changes in risk levels designated by the new maps could raise or lower flood insurance rates for homeowners and business owners.

Jefferson County commissioners approved a two-year contract with ConMed Healthcare Management Inc. for inmate health care services at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility at their meeting Jan. 22. The initial contract period is from Jan. 29, 2013, to Jan. 28, 2015, with an option to renew for three additional one-year terms.
