Orange County Parks is hosting public meetings on May 14 and 15 to gain valuable input from the community on possible improvements to several area parks.

The goal of the planning effort is to create an action plan for restoring and improving the parks of Orange County with the purpose of preserving and improving natural resources and wildlife habitats, as well as enhance recreational facilities and gathering places for park goers.

Nearly one month after being convicted for conspiracy in the assault of her estranged husband, Jefferson County Judge Raquel West  signed an order allowing Kelly Daws to face a jury for a second time.

The Motion for New Trial submitted on April 25 alleges Daws' trial attorney, Glen Crocker, committed "ineffective assistance of counsel" by failing to ensure accomplice-witness instructions were submitted to the jury.

Port Arthur Independent School District's Memorial High School was evacuated Friday, April 26, after contractors working on the property struck a utility line causing the school to fill with gas.

Administrators quickly called for an evacuation of the building's 2,000 students and contacted parents. PAISD Superintendent Dr. Mark Porterie said protocols regarding the evacuation were adhered to by students and staff, resulting in a quick and effective clearance of the property.

The restored home at 1357 Broadway St. in Beaumont has been a labor of love in progress for over two years for designer Jeff McManus of McManus Company. McManus will be extending his hospitality to an old friend and artist Cathy Jeffers during “First Thursday” on Thursday, May 2, from 6-8 p.m., which is nestled behind the Mildred Building.

This evening is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.

The family of a Beaumont man killed March 17 at a local night club is asking for the public to come forward with any information relating to their family member’s death.

Quincy Davis was at Bar 23 Social Lounge at about 3:40 a.m. when relatives say a domestic dispute occurred between acquaintances of Davis. His attempt to intervene ended with many shots being fired from multiple weapons and ultimately, with Davis killed and two others injured.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham and Beaumont Police Chief Jimmy Singletary announced April 25 that a Jefferson County grand jury returned indictments on three individuals involved in the trafficking of a 12-year-old female. The indictments are the result of a joint investigation involving the Beaumont Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

An 11-year-old boy was killed April 24 as a result of a collision in Vidor.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a reported crash at the intersection of FM 105 and Lakeview Cutoff at about 8 p.m. Emergency responders transported the boy to a Beaumont hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

 The Salvation Army will be welcoming volunteers partnered with KaBOOM! and the Rebuild Texas Fund to build a kid-designed playground in just six hours on Saturday, April 27, at the Salvation Army of Beaumont. This playground comes as continued support Beaumont has received in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, even more than a year after the disastrous event.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 69 in Tyler County that resulted in the death of a Woodville man.

According to initial reports, a Warren Baptist Church bus was traveling southbound on Highway 68 when a passenger vehicle pulled from a driveway into the path of the oncoming bus. Attempting to avoid a collision, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, striking a nearby tree.
