The month of October is nationally declared Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which was first observed in 1987, and it stands as a time to not only mourn domestic violence, but also actively combat it. Right now part of the battle is in the courts. When the grand jury issued indictments  last week, multiple cases of alleged domestic violence were among them. Antoine Joel Bohanon, Lashon Bourgeois and Daviun Julien were three of the individuals indicted in Jefferson County for three separate alleged incidents.

At approximately 9:16 p.m. on Oct. 12, Port Arthur Police responded to  a report of a robbery at 1039 Ninth Ave.    

According to a statement from PAPD, officers responded and discovered that two subjects had entered the business armed with handguns and robbed the clerk. The subjects fled with an unknown amount of cash. No one was injured during the incident. The incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division.

At 1:34 p.m. on Oct. 12, officers responded to the 700 block of San Jacinto in reference to a female that called and said she had just been shot. Upon arrival, witnesses told officers the victim and suspect were still in the residence.

A 43-year-old Beaumont woman has been sentenced for her part in a conspiracy targeting federal inmates and their families in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown Oct. 12.

Tanya L. Richard pleaded guilty on June 14 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone. Richard was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $166,250.

Oct. 11, a man shot through the door of the Dollar General on FM 1442 near I-10, as employees barricaded themselves in another room of the store. The man entered the store but fled shortly thereafter. Video showed the man wearing a mask and a camo shirt, a pistol in one hand and some sort of blunt object in his other hand.

Thursday, Oct., officers responded to the 3100 block of Gilbert in reference to a victim of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 31-year-old Beaumont man, laying in the doorway of his residence with a gunshot wound under the left armpit. The victim told officers he knew the suspect and had invited him into the house. The victim said they got into a disturbance over narcotics that turned violent. The suspect fled the scene headed southwest along the railroad tracks after shooting the victim. The victim was transported to St.

A statement released Oct. 11 from the Coast Guard in Galveston stated that they have now suspended the search for a person last seen in the water near Seawolf Park.

Search crews covered more than 259 square miles for approximately 23 hours.

According to a statement from the Beaumont police, on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 1:07 p.m., officers responded to an aggravated robbery in progress at the Major Dr. Food Mart (870 S.Major). Three young black males, two with handguns, robbed the clerk and fled with money and cigarettes. A witness told officers the suspects were last seen getting in a dark vehicle and headed west on Landis. While officers were on the scene, another witness gave officers additional suspect vehicle information.

“If you see something, say something.”

Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas reminds us that we, as the residents of this community, have the ability to get criminals off the streets, thieves out of reach of our property, predators away from our children – by simply speaking up. 

The message has apparently gotten through. On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the local Crime Stoppers group accepted a state program award for most cases solved by population.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Thursday, Oct. 11, that Kenrick Devonne Johnson, 37, to fifteen year sin prison by State Judge Larry Gist of the Drug Impact Court of Jefferson County.
