Vidor Junior High School staff and students were bused to nearby Vidor Middle School after an early morning bomb threat was called into VJHS administration. According to school district spokeswoman Sally Andrews, students will be fed and kept safe at the middle school and parents are not being asked to pick up their student at this time.

A Memorial High School secretary, Emma Hardy, 57, remains in the Jefferson County Jail Monday Afternoon in lieu of a $75,000 bond for Improper Relationship between Educator and Student, a second degree felony, after she was arrested Sunday evening by Port Arthur Police. According to a press release from the department, at 7:58 p.m. Sunday, an officer "observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the Seawall near downtown Port Arthur. The officer approached the vehicle and saw a male and a female engaged in sexual activity inside the vehicle."

UPDATE:The man shot and killed after he opened fire on Beaumont Police Officers Thursday morning at his residence on Harriot Street has been identified as 37-year-old Lee Adam Dixon (DOB 10-18-1974) of Beaumont. Dixon, was no stranger to police, having been arrested more than 30 times with, at least, five convictions for evading detention, unlawfully carrying a weapon, theft, possession of a controlled substance and reckless conduct.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Friday, Jan. 6, revisions to the Uniform Crime Report’s (UCR) definition of rape, which will lead to a more comprehensive statistical reporting of rape nationwide, he said. The new definition is more inclusive, better reflects state criminal codes and focuses on the various forms of sexual penetration understood to be rape.

UPDATE: As of 1:30 p.m., officials have announced Hwy. 73 east and west bound lanes have reopened after this morning's pile-up. The total number of vehicles and victims involved in the crash is still undetermined, but reports estimate up to 200 vehicles were affected with more than 50 persons reporting injuries. At least four people were critically injured in the major traffic incident, but no fatalities have been reported.

Beaumont police officers and fire department personnel responded to an accident along Eastex Freeway just past Austin Middle School Wednesday afternoon after a man driving a 1999 Pontiac lost control of his vehicle, went over the grassy median, across the access road slamming into an oak tree and then through a brick wall at the Longfellow Apartments.
