AUSTIN – Texas game wardens are adding a new set of eyes in the sky — an Unmanned Aircraft System or UAS — they say will enhance their ability to quickly and safely surveil hard to access areas during natural disasters and search and rescue operations.

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at 10:50 p.m., two suspects committed an aggravated robbery at the Shop N Save located at 2675 S. Fourth St.

The crime was captured on the store’s video surveillance system. The suspects are described as a heavy set, light skinned black male wearing a gray jacket with two blue stripes down the arms, camo shorts, and black Nike slides. The male is armed with a black rifle during the commission of the Robbery. Detectives believe that the second suspect, wearing the camo jacket and hospital mask, may be a black female.

Friday, Feb. 2, around 1 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force were investigating complaints about narcotics being sold from a house on Houston Street in Beaumont.

Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Jon Meade Huntsman Sr., 80, died Friday, Feb. 2, at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

His family released a statement saying he “passed away peacefully” around 2 p.m., “surrounded by a loving family, following long-term health challenges.”

Huntsman had previously beaten prostate cancer, mouth cancer and two types of skin cancer in his lifetime.

Police in Vidor arrested four people for forgery after they allegedly attempted to pass counterfeit currency at three local businesses, reports Chief Rod Carroll. 

According to a news release from the Vidor Police Department (VPD), officers responded to a call reporting several counterfeit bills that had been used as payment at the Dollar General store in the 300 block of Main Street at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 31.  The clerk told officers that two males and a female passed fake two $20 bills and a $50 bill.

Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Jan. 31 that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested Thomas Lee Scott, 58, of Lorena, a town near Waco, on two counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison per charge.

Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office have identified “mostly skeletal” remains found in Pinehurst woods in October 2017 as 22-year-old Nathaniel Allen Anderson, who was reported missing months earlier. Foul play is suspected.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public’s help in solving the 1983 murder of Susan Lee Eads, and an increased reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible if the tip is received before next month’s featured case is announced.
