Rose City Mayor Bonnie Stephenson appeared on Megyn Kelly TODAY on Dec. 6 with her town’s Hurricane Harvey recovery hero Eric Klein, founder and CEO of disaster aid organization Can-Do.org, to celebrate his efforts and highlight the ongoing struggles Rose City faces getting people back into their storm-battered houses. During Kelly’s “People Helping People” segment, the pair received a surprise donation – $10,000 from Lowe’s to Can-Do.org – to help the small town’s citizens rebuild their homes and their lives.

A bicyclist died in a collision with a car early Tuesday, Dec. 5, Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley said in a release.

Beaumont police officers responded to the scene of an accident near 6240 Hwy 347 at 4:36 a.m., according to the statement.

The Thanksgiving wave of the Port Arthur Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) concluded Nov. 28, the department said in a release.

The Vidor Police Department (VPD) is adding an officer to its ranks, and plans to sniff out a name soon for the new K-9 officer, Chief Rod Carroll reports. 

According to a news release, the newest addition to the VPD team is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois. The K-9 unit is being trained for narcotics, tracking and handler protection, states the department, and is expected to start patrolling with Officer Ethan Mansfield in February 2018. 

"The K-9 is another tool that is being utilized to better protect our community," Carroll stated.

The Nederland Chamber of Commerce announced Monday, Dec. 4th that they are still "moving forward" with the city parade on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.

Parade organizers said plans would be conformed Dec. 5 at noon through Facebook and social media.
