On May 30 at 11:10 p.m., a Beaumont police officer was patrolling in the area of 7th Street and I-10 East when he observed a silver PT Cruiser run a stop sign, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

May 30 at about 11:40 a.m., Beaumont police responded to a residence in the 4400 block of Ector Avenue in reference to a burglary in progress, in which the caller stated the suspect had a gun, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

As officers arrived, the suspect attempted to exit the house but retreated back inside. Additional police units established a perimeter around the residence. Several attempts to contact the suspect inside were made; however, they were unsuccessful.

Detective Robert Ener, a 29-year veteran of the Beaumont Police Department who had been battling cancer, passed away over the weekend on May 28 at age 59, reports the department. 

In a statement, BPD remembered the long-time officer and brother in blue, and thanked the community for reaching out to help with medical expenses during a benefit held for Ener earlier this year.

On May 28 at about 12:30 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to a one vehicle rollover crash on I-10 near FM 365 in Jefferson County, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

All three high school campuses of the Beaumont Independent School District will host graduation ceremonies at the Lamar University Montagne Center, 4400 MLK Parkway in Beaumont, on Saturday, June 3. For those who cannot be there in person, the district will also host all three ceremonies live online for remote viewing at https://livestream.com/BISDTV.

BISD reports that West Brook High School will graduate at 9 a.m., Central Medical Magnet High School will graduate at 1 p.m., and Ozen Magnet High School will graduate at 5 p.m.

Texas WIC is stepping up its efforts to ensure children get a healthy meal during summer and beyond.

Continuing its efforts to protect children from dangerous child predators, the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of the Texas attorney general’s office arrested four men in Gregg County for Online Solicitation of a Minor during a sting operation this week, Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a release.

The CEU collaborated with the Arlington Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the Longview Police Department on the operation. The suspects were all charged with a second-degree felony and booked into the Gregg County Jail without incident.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in looking for a man who they say was involved in an attempted murder and armed robbery last December at a Lake Charles motel.

Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church is holding a garage sale to benefit Harvest House Ministry on June 10 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1350 North 23rd Street in Beaumont.

Harvest House is a non-profit dedicated to providing sex trafficking awareness and advocacy, mentoring, prevention and community mobilization in Southeast Texas. Their goal is to raise funds for long-term rehabilitation center for adolescent victims of sex trafficking.
