UPDATE on 4/21/2017: The Port Arthur Fire Department continues to work with German Pellets Texas, LLC and Texas Pellets, Inc. (collectively GPTX) to extinguish the burn, the City of Port Arthur said in a statement.

The safest way to manage this type of smoldering is to contain it using the facility's suppression system until the wood pellets can be safely removed from the silo. GPTX is on site with experts assessing the situation, and anticipate that it could be several weeks or more before the incident is completely resolved.

I confided to Dr.
