Southeast Texas schools will be resuming in the coming weeks. This means that school buses will again be delivering precious cargo to and from those schools.

According to Texas law, drivers must stop when a school bus extends its stop sign or turns on their flashing red lights. When a school bus is stopped, drivers must come to a complete stop on all lanes in both traveling directions; this is with the exception of a road with a raised median or barrier.

Wednesday, Aug. 7, at about 3 a.m. the Beaumont Police Department was called to Waffle House located on College Street in reference to a victim of a shooting. 

Their preliminary investigation revealed that several subjects were playing dice outside the restaurant. One of the subjects lost his money during the game and left, returning a short time later with a firearm. The suspect began robbing people who were still playing.

At about 4 p.m. Aug. 8, Beaumont police officers responded to a call from the Beaumont Community Credit Union on Martin Luther King Parkway in reference to an aggravated robbery that had just occurred. 

Responding officers were told a suspect walked into the credit union and approached the teller with a plastic bag over his hand, acting as though he was concealing a firearm. He threatened the teller and demanded money. The teller complied with his demand and he fled south with the stolen money from the financial institute.

NOAA forecasters monitoring oceanic and atmospheric patterns say conditions are now more favorable for above-normal hurricane activity since El Nino has now ended. Two named storms have formed so far this year and the peak months of the hurricane season, August through October, are now underway.

It’s been two weeks since 15-year-old Bryce Bell was certified to stand trial as an adult for allegedly killing Anthony Wilson and as of Aug. 7, it was determined he will, in fact, face a charge of capital murder in a Jefferson County courtroom.

The indictment handed up by a Jefferson County grand jury accuses the teen of the April 11 homicide in Beaumont’s Dowlen West Neighborhood, which has been chronicled extensively throughout officers’ investigation and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s prosecution to date.

On Wednesday, July 31, two men came across human remains in the woods of South Liberty County and notified the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies responded along with the Texas Rangers and found additional remains on Aug. 1. The area where they were discovered had recently been under water due to flooding of the Trinity River. Texas EquuSearch joined in assisting deputies and rangers in the search for any additional remains on Aug. 5.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reported 2.6 pounds of methamphetamine was found on Bolivar beach. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of $20,500. 

Hawthorne warned those who may stumble across such a find are encouraged to immediately call the sheriff's office and refrain from touching the suspected drugs, as it could result in exposure to harmful or even fatal substances. 

Also never attempt to move or transport the suspected drugs. Leave it to law enforcement to remove safely.

A months long investigation has resulted in the arrests of more than a dozen in Chambers County.

According to information from the Chambers County Sheriff's Office, deputies were conducting an investigation of Lambert "Ray" Myers on Oct. 11 when a vehicle was observed leaving his residence on Stutes Road in Winnie. The vehicle was stopped and three subjects were arrested for possessing over 5 ounces of methamphetamine. A search warrant was obtained for Myers' residence and an additional 2 ounces of methamphetamine was located.

Beaumont police officers were called to the 300 block of Pinchback Road on Aug. 4, in reference to a victim of a stabbing. 

Upon arrival, officers found a 35-year-old man with a lacerations to his neck and chest. He was reportedly bleeding profusely. Beaumont EMS transported the man to St. Elizabeth for treatment.

Police have identified the body of a woman found at a railyard as that of 64-year-old Judy Toronjo.
