Police arrested a suspect for possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance after discovering pot and what officers believe to be 20 ecstasy pills during a traffic stop on April 14, reports the Orange Police Department. 

According to a report from Officer Justin Kirkpatrick, he stopped a red Ford Mustang for traveling on 16th Street with the taillights not illuminated. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, Kirkpatrick noticed the passenger seemed to be holding the glove box shut with his hand.

When Nederland Heritage Festival (NHF) executive director Wanda Hollier retired in 2016, speculation swarmed around her rapid exit, and tongues wagged when volunteer coworkers did not throw her the traditional retirement party expected after nearly 20 years of service.

UPDATE on 4/21/2017: The Port Arthur Fire Department continues to work with German Pellets Texas, LLC and Texas Pellets, Inc. (collectively GPTX) to extinguish the burn, the City of Port Arthur said in a statement.

The safest way to manage this type of smoldering is to contain it using the facility's suppression system until the wood pellets can be safely removed from the silo. GPTX is on site with experts assessing the situation, and anticipate that it could be several weeks or more before the incident is completely resolved.

On Sunday, April 16, at 3:21 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to Colliers Ferry Park on Pine Street in reference to a 7 year old child reportedly falling into the river and possibly drowning, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

The Beaumont Fire and Rescue Water Response Team responded to the scene as well.

After about two hours of searching, a diver was able to locate the victim's body in the water, near the area that witnesses had last seen him.

Two houses in Beaumont caught fire this weekend, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Brad Penisson reported. 

On April 16 at about 1:19 AM, Beaumont Fire-Rescue units responded to a structure fire reported at in the 1100 block of Euclid Street.

Child Protective Services (CPS) staff and other child advocates gathered for a press conference Friday, April 7, at the fire museum pavilion in downtown Beaumont.

“CPS completed 166,753 investigations that confirmed 58,664 children were victims of abuse or neglect in Texas last year,” Shari Pulliam, Beaumont’s CPS spokesperson, said in a release, calling child abuse “a big problem” in Texas.

“More than 200 children in Texas died due to abuse or neglect last year,” she said.
