Following the Wednesday, Feb. 27, death of Desmond Nixon at a residence on Picadilly Lane, three warrants were issued for suspects in the crime. Following the announcement of the warrants, the suspects turned themselves into the Beaumont Police Department.

The Port Arthur Police Department responded to the Park Central Apartments on Saturday, March 2, in reference to a robbery just after 8 a.m.

According to their investigation, three black males entered an aprtment where the victim was asleep by an unlocked back door. During the robbery, the suspects physically restrained the victim down while they took his property. The victim received minor injuries and gave a description of the suspects, as well as the property stolen from him.

A Jefferson County grand jury handed up an indictment against three Beaumont residents for deadly conduct after uploading a live video to Facebook.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11:51 p.m., Beaumont police officers responded to the 5800 block of Picadilly Lane in reference to a victim of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as Desmond Nixon, 35, of Beaumont, suffering from gunshot wounds. Beaumont EMS transported Nixon to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Just weeks after an arrest in Orange for apparent PCP-related intoxication, Brittany Lacole McLeod, aka Britteny McLeod, 32, has been indicated on state jail felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for a separate crime reportedly also related to PCP.

A Jefferson County grand jury has declined indicting a Port Arthur police officer for his role in the December 2018 death of 35-year-old Shayne Lyons.

According to information previously released by the Port Arthur Police Department, at about 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, an unnamed Port Arthur Police Department officer attempted to stop Lyons, who was carrying a large weapon as he was walking in the roadway.

One Friday, Feb. 15, Jefferson County deputies, with assistance from a K-9 officer and the Jefferson County crime scene unit responded to two reported burglaries that took place in the 2700 block of Tyler Avenue in Nederland. 

Photos showing a suspect vehicle used in the burglaries were obtained from neighboring home videos. Soon after the release of the photos, calls came into Crime Stoppers helping identify possible suspects.

Police say an autopsy report recently released revealed that an inmate found dead in a cell at the Jasper City Jail on Jan. 30 died of a drug overdose.

According to a news release from the Jasper Police Department (JPD), a coroner deemed the death accidental and the autopsy report from the Jefferson County medical examiner’s office indicates 28-year-old Steven Mitchell Qualls’ died as the result of methamphetamine/amphetamine toxicity.

The Port Arthur Police Department responded to a wreck in the 6100 block of West Port Arthur Road around 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. 

According to department information, arriving officers found both drivers died in the wreck. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The drivers were identified as Arron Breed, 48, of Port Arthur and Mark Anthony, 47, of Port Acres.

A felony indictment of tampering with a governmental record against Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens was dismissed following a hearing in the 344th Judicial District Court on Thursday, Feb. 22.
