U.S. Senator Ted Cruz is bringing his re-election campaign to Jefferson County for a rally Saturday. The rally is set for 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at Edison Plaza in downtown Beaumont. Talk radio host and Fox News personality Sean Hannity will be there for the Oct. 20 rally, according to Edison Plaza’s social media page. Early voting begins on Oct. 22.

The 28-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle accident Oct. 17 has been identified as Orlando Raul Ramos. Ramos was working at the Coast Guard office in Port Arthur, and, according to DPS, had identification on him that indicated a home address in Florida.

Fatal Wednesday morning accident on SH 73

At approximately 7 am on Oct. 17, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a single vehicle crash on SH 73 in Jefferson County. The crash occurred at Needmore Canal.

Initial reports indicate that a Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on SH 73. For an unknown reason, the driver of the vehicle struck the outside guardrail and lost control. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and came to rest in the canal.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, preliminary reports in the Oct. 16 accident indicate that a 2003 Buick passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on SH 73. Due to the wet road conditions, the vehicle hydroplaned and the driver lost control. The vehicle struck the inside guardrail, which disabled the vehicle in the roadway. A Chrysler 200 and a Toyota SUV were traveling westbound on SH 73 and stopped in the roadway to avoid colliding with the wrecked vehicle.

Herbert Wayne Collins, a 38-year-old Beaumont man, was arrested as a suspect in the murder of 29-year-old Bradison Allen Mims near the corner of North and Ewing on Tuesday, Oct. 16. 

According to BPD, on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 2:41 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Ewing in reference a victim of a shooting.  Upon arrival officers discovered Mims who had been shot several times. Collins was picked up the same day in the 2400 block of Delaware around 4:30 p.m.

Four Beaumont men were arrested after Beaumont Police investigated a suspiciously parked vehicle in a vacant lot in the 2600 block of Houston Street the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 16. 

According to Beaumont Police, the investigation led officers to 2.56 ounces of suspected synthetic marijuana and two firearms. One of the firearms was reported stolen out of the Beaumont Police Department.  All four subjects were arrested and transported to Jefferson County Jail.

Dashman Crossley

Beaumont Police Department released a statemnt informing that Dashman Crossley is in custody. Officers arrested him October 15 around 9:00 p.m.  in the 200 block of Dowlen for his parole warrant with aggravated assault charges pending.

On Oct. 16, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported a multiple vehicle crash on SH 73 in Jefferson County.  The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. near SH 87.

At the time, troopers stated that there were four vehicles involved in two separate crashes in the westbound traffic lanes of SH 73. Injuries had been reported, but the extent of those injuries had not been confirmed. Motorists were urged to use caution while traveling in the area and to stay alert for emergency vehicles and slow or stopped traffic.

William Webb, 21 of Orange, was arrested by Orange Co. Sheriff’s deputies and charged with Aggravated Robbery.  He was charged after shooting out the front door of the Dollar General store located at FM 1442, near I-10, on the night of Oct. 11.  He’d entered the building while employees hid, but left without taking anything.  Webb was found after a search later that evening.
