Police in Orange have arrested a suspect in the March 8 shooting of 24-year-old Centarius Chavis, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a news release from OPD, police arrested 23-year-old O'shaquie Foster, aka O’shanique Foster, of Orange, for aggravated assault March 9 following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

The Legacy Christian Academy girls basketball team won the TAPPS 3A state basketball championship last weekend by defeating Midland Christian 64-49 on March 4 in Abilene.

McDonald’s All-American and Baylor signee Alexa Morris scored 35 points to help the Lady Warriors claim the title and finish 34-2 on the season.

The TAPPS 3A All Tournament team included junior Taja Shipp and sophomores Ashari Morris and Allura Wilkes.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested Robert Odean Fry, 54, of Brownwood, yesterday on three counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. Fry could face up to 10 years in prison per charge if convicted.

Billie Louise (West) Miller, 87, passed from her earthly life in the early morning hours on March 1, 2017, surrounded by family at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Louise was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Houston to loving parents William Wesley and Emily West. Her parents and her older sister, Vera Hortense Parrish, preceded her in death.

Beaumont’s very own Pride festival started in 2014, but the non-profit dissolved last year due to the annual financial burden, according to former volunteer chair Jacqueline Hays.

However, Hays believes that others in the community will step forward to keep Beaumont Pride going.

“I … am expecting to see some movement in April because of Lamar Pride month,” she said. “We’re sure the community will take it over.” She mentioned the LGBT group in Orange as a possibility.

Carl Parker, and this past week, the Golden Triangle’s voice was heard when the chambers of Orange, Beaumont and Port Arthur collaborated to host Golden Triangle Days in the state’s capital from Sunday, March 5 – Tuesday, March 7. 

Parker is one of the original founders of Port Arthur Day, a Port Arthur exclusive event similar to Golden Triangle Days held before the Chambers decided to collaborate.
