Effective Wednesday, January 6, 2016, the intersection of East Lavaca Street with M.L. King Jr. Parkway (Spur 380) Northbound Service Road will be open to all traffic beginning at 7 a.m.

The former city of Port Arthur Water Meter Services Department Supervisor, 57-year-old Robert Leblanc, was arrested and formally charged Jan. 5 by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

Leblanc is charged with five counts of theft by a public servant involving 21 incidents of metal theft, each charge being a third-degree felony offense. The stolen metal were water meter parts belonging to the city of Port Arthur. Bond was set at $60,000.

Police in Orange arrested one man they say was asleep at the wheel Jan. 2, but he wasn't on the road; according to the investigating officer, he was apparently passed out drunk in the drive-thru of a local McDonalds.

Two thieves' attempt to rob an Orange hotel was foiled when the clerk recognized the "gun" the male suspect brandished as a fake Jan. 3, reports the Orange Police Department.

On Monday, January 4, 2016, at 5:50 p.m., a subject contacted the Port Arthur Police Department stating she had been robbed.

According Sgt. Rowe, upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and learned the robbery occurred several minutes earlier, but the victim's cell phone was taken, and she was unable to immediately contact the police.

Effective January 4, 2016, Avenue A from East Lavaca Street to Church Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. until Monday, January 18, 2016.  This closure will allow the city to repair the pavement in this area.

District Attorney Bob Wortham has announced that a jury of the Drug Impact Court has found Wallace Joseph Green guilty of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) in an amount of at least 1 gram and less than 4 grams.

Police in Beaumont and CrimeStoppers are asking for the public's assistance finding the suspect in a Monday morning bank robbery, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

According to BPD, dispatch alerted officers of a robbery in progress at Chase Bank, 350 S. Dowlen Rd. on Monday, January 4, at 10:22 a.m.
