Charlotte and Jack Brooks

Charlotte Collins Brooks passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the age of 78. She was born and raised in Cameron, Texas, on Aug. 28, 1935, and had lived in Beaumont, Texas, and Washington, D.C. for the past 60 years. A memorial service for Mrs. Brooks will be 6 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with a gathering of her family and friends to follow.

One person is dead as the result of a two-vehicle accident this morning, Trooper Stephanie Davis reports.

According to a news release from DPS, troopers were dispatched to West Port Arthur Road at South Garden Road in Jefferson County at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and more information will be released as it becomes available, Trooper Davis reports.

After collecting more than 1,700 tons of expired, unwanted prescription medications over the past three-and-a-half years, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and more than 4,200 national, tribal, and community law enforcement partners will hold another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 26th.  Americans can take their pills (no liquids or needles) to one of over 5,600 collection sites across the country between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
