Kim Snow and Kathy McCall enjoy the Lace, Grace, and Gears rally

Over a thousand bikers attended the Lace, Grace and Gears rally on Crockett Street the first weekend in October. The rally started on Friday, Sept. 30, and opened at 8 a.m. Their goal was to beat the world record for most women riders on motorcycles at one time, currently held by an Australian group of 1,002 riders.

Lace, Grace and Gears posted on its Facebook page Oct. 3 that the final count of 806 women and 62 bikes “was an amazing feat” and “watch out 2017!”

Tuesday, Oct. 4 about 5:15 p.m., a passenger vehicle crashed into Texas State Trooper Kenneth Burman’s patrol vehicle on I-10 West near Vidor.

The officer had been investigating an accident when he was hit from the rear, according to the Beaumont Department of Public Safety’s statement.

He was transported by helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment. DPS reported at 8:34 p.m. that his injuries are non-life threatening.

Seven protestors gathered outside the Jefferson County Courthouse on Thursday, Sept. 29, to demand justice, stating that they have been cheated by Quanell X, a Houston community activist.

The press conference began with a prayer circle led by Beaumont activist Ricky Jason, once a colleague of Quanell X.

Pine Forest City Councilman Robert Kremer submitted his resignation last week, stating to The Examiner his reasons for leaving were the “unethical and possibly illegal” actions recently taken by the Mayor and council members after a recent meeting. Mayor Cathy Nagel contends nothing unethical or illegal took place and says she has the recording to prove it.

Kremer expressed, “The reason I resigned is the unethical and possibly illegal actions going on by the city council members and the mayor.”

Saturday, Nov. 5, The Golden Triangle Rose Society is hosting its Fall Rose Show. The show is open and free to the public and will be held at the Beaumont Botanical Gardens from 2-3 p.m.

Jefferson County’s deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Allison Nathan Getz, Jefferson County voter registrar, announced in a release that anyone who wishes to vote in the upcoming presidential election Nov. 8 must register or correct their name and address before that date.

Saturday, Oct. 8, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church will be hosting a free Fall Festival from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Two local bands, the Providence Band and Fishbait, will be performing live.

The church will be serving free hotdogs and giving out prizes throughout the evening. The festival will also hold informational booths and activity stations. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Police in Orange are searching for the suspect who robbed ShowBiz Cinema in Orange at gunpoint Oct. 1, reports the Orange Police Department (OPD).

Beaumont Police responded to a “major crash” in the 5700 block of MLK Parkway southbound on Sunday, Oct. 2, about 1 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that two vehicles were on fire, a white Ford F350 and a black Chrysler 300.

BPD officers used fire extinguishers in their patrol units until Beaumont Fire-Rescue arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames, according to a release.

Sunday, Oct. 2, about 1 a.m., Port Arthur Police Department responded to a call regarding shots fired at the Avery Trace Apartments on FM 365.

PAPD reports that the suspect fired into a crowd near the apartment complex parking lot, wounding two people. Seven vehicles were also damaged during the shooting.

The victims were transported to the Southeast Texas Medical Center and released with minor injuries.

The suspect remains at large.
