Texas Education Agency deputy commissioner Lizzette Reynolds has confirmed a decision made by TEA commissioner Michael Williams to lower the Beaumont Independent School District's accreditation status to "Accredited - Probation." The decision was made by the TEA commissioner in the wake of an investigation by the agency that revealed "serious and persistent deficiencies in the areas of financial management, compliance with legal requirements, and special education."

Beaumont firefighters battled a fire in the 6000 Jody Lane in Beaumont shortly after 5 p.m. on June 15, the Beaumont Fire Department reports. They were able to douse the fire, but not before it spread to an outbuilding on a nearby property.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that BISD Trustee Zenobia Bush's son — Byron Bush — has been indicted for two counts of attempted capital murder and is currently in the Jefferson County Jail after Bush allegedly participated in a home invasion that resulted in the beating assault of an elderly woman and the exchange of gunfire with police at the Stone Hearst Apartments on East Lucas.
