The City of Beaumont’s online auction of surplus property begins Oct. 30 and runs through Nov. 13 at René Bates Auctioneers Inc. on behalf of the City of Beaumont. Items for sale will include various equipment and furniture. Once the auction is open, all items are available for viewing at the auction site, and equipment can be viewed in person at the City of Beaumont Fleet Services Center, 4955 Lafin Road.

Patrolling police arrested 25-year-old Orange resident Ronnie Toby Malbrough for evading arrest when he fled after they attempted to stop him for disorderly conduct on Oct. 18, reports the Orange Police Department.

Structure fire at 3880 E. Lynwood

Shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday morning, Oct. 18, 2015, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 3880 E. Lynwood near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Hayes Lane in Beaumont’s North End neighborhood. When firefighters arrived, they found the wood-frame home heavily involved by fire. Firefighters made a defensive attack due to the extent of the fire, and in more than 30 minutes it took to control the blaze, the home sustained extensive damage.

A three-day-old female southern white rhino calf bravely went horn-to-nub with her “auntie,” an adult female rhino named Utamu (pronounced O-ta-moo), early on Oct. 16, 2015, at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

There was a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 at Taylor's Bayou in Jefferson County at approximately 7 am Monday, Oct. 19, 2015.

According to Trooper Stephanie Davis, both a Dodge and a Freightliner were traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 at Taylor's Bayou. It is unclear as to which vehicle failed to drive in a single lane before the two collided. After impact, the Dodge caught fire.

NASA launched a new website Monday, Oct. 19, so the world can see images of the full, sunlit side of the Earth every day. The images are taken by a NASA camera one million miles away on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), a partnership between NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force.

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a five-vehicle crash occurred on US 69 at Oil Field Road in Hardin County. The collision sent nine people to area hospitals.

According to Trooper Stephanie Davis, since all occupants of the multiple-vehicle crash were transported to receive medical attention, the specific details of the incident are unclear. Troopers believe the initial crash was a head-on collision between a Mercedes and a Nissan, and three other vehicles crashed into those two.

Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 9:30 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue responded to a report of a house fire at 2197 Rusk. According to Captain Brad Penisson, when firefighters arrived, they found a vacant duplex engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to quickly control the blaze with no injuries, and it was determined the fire was deliberately set.
