An apparent dispute turned fatal early Saturday morning leaving one man dead and another young man staring at a lengthy prison sentence.

Port Arthur police arrested 23-year-old Joshua Thomas of Port Arthur and he's facing a first degree murder charge. He's sitting in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility with a $750,000 bond. The shooting took place at 1048 12 St, where the victim, Michael Walker, 48, was living with his girlfriend, who owns the home. Walker, who hailed from Georgia, was believed to be in the area working at one of the refineries.

John Ochoa stands by his actions after he shot at a vehicle in the early morning hours of July 23rd when a car sped off as he and another off-duty peace officer attempted to question the people inside the vehicle.

“I did what I felt at that point was necessary,” Ochoa, 39, said.

A fatality wreck that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 3 on Interstate 10 in Rose City was cleared allowing traffic to move freely by 8:20 a.m.

According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a woman was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway when she caused the collision.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is searching for a teen who went missing in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 30. Sharon West, a 14-year-old living in the Labelle-Fannett area, was last seen at the home of a family friend she was staying with around 2 a.m. Saturday morning. She was reported missing  July 30 around 8 p.m.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a suspicious death in Orange County, according to Sergeant Chad Hogan of the department.

Information from the sheriff's office reveals the female victim was discovered in a field on Elizabeth St. off South Teal Road in the Little Cypress area. The death is currently being investigated as a homicide, Hogan stated.

Hogan, shortly after 8 a.m. Aug. 1, said authorities were still working to identify the victim.

After spending more than a million dollars over the past three years on equipment and personnel to scan and search citizens trying to enter the Jefferson County Courthouse, commissioners are considering axing the program, citing ineffectiveness and cost as the primary reasons.

An arbitrator has ruled that, despite the fact former Orange Police Department Capt. Robert Arnold shot and killed James Whitehead at point blank range in the parking of the O'Reilly Auto Parts store on 16th Street in Orange last year, he must be returned to the police force because the city violated Arnold's due process rights.
