Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham was the recipient of the Community Builder Award from the Beaumont Masonic Lodge No. 286, presented by members of the group Tuesday, July 12, at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

According to the award inscription, the honor went to Wortham because of his “distinguished service and personal contributions” to the community of Beaumont.

The Texas General Land Office announced the names of inaugural members of the Commissioner’s Coastal Resiliency Advisory Group (CCRAG) on July 13. This 15-members regional advisory group consists of representatives from local government, business and industry leaders, each serving two-year terms.

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick is one of three Southeast Texas appointees.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

Police in Orange arrested a convicted felon in possession of a firearm July 11, Officer Stephen Ward of the Orange Police Department reported Monday. Ward picked up Euraina Carol White, 46, of Orange, after allegedly finding a gun in her bag. The arrest marks her fourth in Orange since May 2014, and, in spite of her nickname, this frequent flyer of the Orange County Jail is no "Angel," according to police reports and a criminal database search.

Two Orange County teens were injured after being struck by a pickup truck on the evening of July 9, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis.

A woman in Vidor with an uninvited guest told police she asked the apparently intoxicated intruder to leave her residence several times, and he refused. When he exited but then tried to push his way back into her apartment, the woman said she was forced to display her handgun in order to keep the man at bay until police arrived.
