Amid allegations of wrongdoing and shortly after a battle with an elected city of Vidor councilwoman, Vidor Police Chief Charles Eric Foerster has officially resigned his post as head of the municipality's police department.

Editor's Note: The Examiner has obtained a copy of the 38-page document filed by Orange Police Chief Sam Kittrell outlining the findings of his internal investigation into the shooting death of James Whitehead, a decorated U.S. Marine by off-duty police captain Robert Arnold, following a verbal disturbance. Kittrell's report has been reprinted in its entirety in order to provide readers with an accurate sense of what occurred on the day the unarmed man was killed.

On Friday, Nov. 5, around 3:30 a.m. Beaumont police officers responded to the intersection of South 11th Street and Hollywood in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two men, a 25 and 26 year old both from Beaumont, suffering from gun shot wounds and had them transported by EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital. The 25 year old was taken into surgery. The 26-year-old man died at the hospital and was identified as Damon Terrell Walker.

A 32-year-old Woodville man has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

Calling Christians a bunch of jerks is sure to turn a few heads, even more so when the one doing the name-calling is a group of Christians themselves. When Pastor Chris Beard and the congregation of Beaumont's Christ Covenant Church on Major Drive decided to erect a billboard labeling Christians as a bunch of jerks, they expected to get feedback. They didn't expect, however, to be answering calls from national news organizations as to what prompted the ad campaign.

Representatives from the Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center say time is running out to enter family, business, church, school or organization entries into the second annual Scarecrow Festival. Oct. 15 is the last day to register an entry for the Scarecrow Festival, which takes place Oct. 26 through Nov. 27.

Lamar University fresh­man Brandon Jamal Hill, 20, died unexpectedly after being taken by ambulance to an area hospital after becoming ill on Feb. 3, university offi­cials said.

Hill was a resident of Mis­souri City and lived in Monroe Hall on the campus.

The only mention of the death was on the Lamar Universi­ty website through a statement by LU President Ken Evans.
