A man punched a Beaumont postal carrier in the face and refused to give a statement, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release.

A U.S. postal carrier called to report that he had been assaulted while delivering mail near Pittsburg Street and East Lucas Drive. The postal carrier was in his marked vehicle and stopped at the corner of Lucas Drive and Cleveland Street when the suspect allegedly walked up to his vehicle and punched him once in the face with his fist.

Port Arthur police chief Patrick Melvin has selected a deputy chief, promoting Lt. Frank Ramirez to the position, according to a statement PAPD.

The selection process involved a seven-member panel comprised of city staff, community members, a public safety chief and a prosecutor from the district attorney’s office to interview all selected candidates. According to the release, the panel was impressed with all candidates and found it difficult to make a selection. However, the board unanimously selected Ramirez.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Monday, Nov. 21, that Vernon Ray Strong, 63, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced by Judge John B. Stevens, Jr. to 20 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School’s Mural Club collaborated with Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital to create a twelve panel mural on November 11 and 12. The project was completed in two days with many students giving up their entire weekend to participate. A dedication of the mural will take place in December.

The Orange County Commissioners’ Court will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:00 p.m. about requested road name changes for LaPray Lane in Vidor and Owens Illinois Road in Orange and increase in the speed limit on Lakeview Road in Vidor.

The Court “would appreciate hearing from any interested party wishing to comment,” according to a statement.”

The public hearing will be in the Commissioner’s Courtroom of the Orange County Administration Building, located at 123 South 6th Street in Orange.

A Beaumont woman evaded police officers and crashed into the interstate barrier with her toddler in the car, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release.

A Beaumont Police officer was patrolling in the area around Lucas Drive near Eastex and saw a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 12:14 a.m. He approached the vehicle and noticed a small child in the arms of an unconscious woman. He tried to make contact, the woman woke up and sped off.

A man was allegedly robbed in Port Arthur on Monday, Nov. 21 at 3:53 a.m., Port Arthur Police Department said in a release.

PAPD officers responded to a call about a robbery in the 600 block of West 17th Street. Officers discovered a male black victim who sustained a minor injury to his head after being struck with a firearm. The victim was able to give officers information relating to the incident during the invvestigation.
