The Department of Public Safety found the body of a woman who was reported missing earlier in the day on Wednesday Oct. 31. The body of 36-year-old Cherie Kay Trahan was found near Veteran’s Memorial Bridge on SH 87 and Port Arthur Police were called to the scene after discovery.

Lanes of I-10 at College Street will be closed in Beaumont on Saturday, Nov. 3. The lanes that will be closed include the right lane of the northbound feeder road, the eastbound inside left turn lane of College and the U-turn north of College Street (U-turn allowing southbound traffic to turn and merge onto northbound feeder road).

Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office released a list of Halloween safety tips Monday, Oct. 29. 

The list included tips such as wearing bright, reflective and flame retardant clothing, adults inspecting candy before ingesting, to only wear masks that have eye–holes large enough to see and mouth opening large enough to breathe easily and to never accept rides from strangers.

At 11:28 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 30, Port Arthur Police responded to a disturbance in the 1900 block of New Orleans Ave.

During the disturbance a 30-year-old female hit a 20-year-old female with a car. The victim sustained visible injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s hospital for treatment. After the investigation by Port Arthur Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, the suspect, Ausha McKayla Bonton, was arrested for Aggravated Assault.

When the groundskeeper at the Hebrew Rest Cemetery arrived to work on the morning of Oct. 29, he noticed overturned vases and headstones, and immediately contacted the caretaker, who contacted the Orange Police Department (OPD).

“We’ve been actively contacting neighbors and anyone around there but we don’t have any suspects at this time,” said OPD Capt. Robert Enmon.

At 12:48 p.m. on Oct. 29, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) Marine Division was notified by the Coast Guard that a fisherman had located a body in the Neches River near Sabine Pass. JCSO Marine Deputies recovered the body. An autopsy has been ordered and JCSO Detectives are investigating at this time. The body has been identified as 53-year-old Douglas Joseph Schwartz of Beaumont.

Classic Movie Nights have returned to the Jefferson Theatre after months of renovations. 

The city of Beaumont welcomed back the popular event with a showing of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” Saturday, Oct. 26. 

Movies begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. Various concessions are available and tickets are $5. 

“Frida” will be played Nov. 2 followed by “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on Nov. 9

A Vidor man has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal June accident that claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman, reports Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

According to Davis, 36-year-old Blake Travis Bowen was arrested the morning of Oct. 26 following the issuance of an indictment against him for intoxication manslaughter in Orange County.

Damon Winters, a 40-year-old Beaumont man, allegedly shot his stepson the early morning of Friday, Oct. 26. According to Beaumont Police Officer Haley Morrow, at 1:29 a.m. Beaumont Police responded to a residence in the 800 block of Woodrow in reference to a victim of a shooting. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Winters and his 20-year-old stepson had a verbal altercation that turned physical, resulting in Winters shooting his stepson. Winters spoke with Detectives before being placed under arrest for aggravated assault- family violence.
