Buckner Children and Family Services kicked off summer with a “Splash Bash” for the children living in the pre-foster care emergency shelter and assessment center.

“All you have to have is water for them, and they’re happy,” said Damon Bowden, unit supervisor for the assessment center.

Children and volunteers gathered at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 to play water games, enjoy a cookout, and make positive summer memories.

Police have arrested an Orange resident for the June 22 aggravated robbery of the Texas Country Store, located at 3701 16th Street.

According to a news release from OPD Captain Cliff Hargrave, officers arrested 18-year-old Cody Bernard Kimball on Wednesday, June 24, at 11:30 a.m. He is being held in the Orange County Jail on the charge of aggravated robbery on $20,000 bond.

H-E-B, committed to the quality of its products, is issuing a voluntary recall for H-E-B brand hamburger and hotdog buns and Hill Country Fare hotdog buns due to the possible presence of foreign material that might impact the quality of the product. A terry cloth glove used for handling hot pans could have broken up in the dough, resulting in a potential choking hazard. No incidents have been reported.

The U.S. dollar is the world’s most widely used medium of exchange. And it will soon become a medium of change, as well.

It seems that activists pushing to have the portrait of a woman – an actual woman, not just a symbolic female figure – placed on the nation’s paper money have been successful.

In a press release June 17, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew announced that the new $10 note will feature a woman.
