The Aerospace and Engineering Design Team from Anahuac will be blasting off rock

While many teenaged students saw the South Texas State Fair as a time to play games and relax on rides, a group of local high schoolers decided to blow off steam a different way – by showing off their handmade rockets.

Travelers and commuters who work in downtown Beaumont may have noticed the onramp leading from downtown to eastbound Interstate 10 is closed. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, it will remain that way for several months.

Former educator Michael Fisher was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years probation and anger management classes for punching a student while he was employed as a math tutor at Beaumont Independent School District’s Smith Middle School in November 2013. Fisher maintained his innocence throughout his trial, but video surveillance of the incident and witness testimony, including testimony from two fellow educators, convinced a jury otherwise.

This is the show originally scheduled for Feb. 14 that was postponed. Tickets from that show will be honored.

St. Mark Episcopal Church will host the Fighting Diabetes with Food Health Fair sponsored by the Southeast Texas Food Bank on Saturday, April 11 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

This new Southeast Texas Food Bank initiative will link those affected by diabetes or vulnerable to diabetes with health support services and give them the chance to go home with no cost food boxes consisting of food options that insure a diabetic-friendly diet.
