A woman with a history of mental illness has been indicted after the theft of a police cruiser and a wild chase through Beaumont.

Carlee Galmore, 31, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury March 13 on charges of felony theft, evading police with a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a public servant, a second-degree felony, state jail felony and first-degree felony, respectively.

The Hamshire-Fannett Elementary School in the 2300 block of Burrell-Wingate Road in Jefferson County is closed indefinitely and classes for students have been canceled through Friday, March 21, after an early morning fire March 18 devastated the educational facility.

Officers with the Beaumont Police Department arrested two teenage males in relation to a call they received reporting a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of Pierce Street in Beaumont on Monday night, March 17, at about 10:53 p.m., police report.

According to a news release from BPD, the caller reporting the burglary said two black males kicked in a door and entered a residence on Pierce Street. When officers arrived on scene, the witness said the two burglars were still inside the house.

UPDATE: Beaumont police have apprehended 26-year-old Joe Frederick Hawkins of Beaumont who was wanted as a suspect in a triple homicide that took place over the weekend. If convicted, Hawkins faces the death penalty for capital murder. A Port Arthur woman has been charged with hindering his apprehension.

An accident involving a semi and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a Louisiana woman this weekend, DPS reports.

The historic Cow Bayou Bridge in Bridge City is closed as of Monday, March 17, until restoration is complete.

According to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), all traffic will be diverted to the taller Cow Bayou Bridge next to the historic bridge. North and southbound traffic will continue to flow on the taller bridge until the restoration of the historic bridge is complete, and no pedestrian traffic is permitted, according to the release.
