The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday, Jan. 6, that U.S. Marshals, at the agency’s request, seized nearly 90,000 bottles of dietary supplements labeled as containing kratom. The product, manufactured for and held by Dordoniz Natural Products LLC, located in South Beloit, Illinois, is marketed under the brand name RelaKzpro and worth more than $400,000.

Lamar University has named four alumni as Distinguished Alumni for 2016, noting that their dedication to their professions, service to their communities and loyalty to their alma mater epitomizes the Lamar University spirit. The award is the highest granted by the university to its graduates.

"These four individuals represent excellence in their careers and a genuine love for their alma mater,” said Shannon Copeland, director of alumni affairs. “It is an honor to name them as our Distinguished Alumni for 2016.”

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, around 7:30 p.m., the Beaumont Police Department’s Special Assignments Unit (SAU) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) apprehended the suspect from the Chase bank robbery that occurred on January 4, 2016.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at approximately 10:17 p.m., officers of the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to the 7900 block of Memorial Blvd. in reference to an auto pedestrian accident.

According to Sergeant Lloyd, officers learned a 2013 Dodge Ram had been northbound in the inside lane when it struck a 30-year-old male pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ram remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The former city of Port Arthur Water Meter Services Department Supervisor, 57-year-old Robert Leblanc, was arrested and formally charged Jan. 5 by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

Leblanc is charged with five counts of theft by a public servant involving 21 incidents of metal theft, each charge being a third-degree felony offense. The stolen metal were water meter parts belonging to the city of Port Arthur. Bond was set at $60,000.

Police in Orange arrested one man they say was asleep at the wheel Jan. 2, but he wasn't on the road; according to the investigating officer, he was apparently passed out drunk in the drive-thru of a local McDonalds.
