The Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division offered a reward on Feb. 27 of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons involved in the shooting of eight year-old De'Maree Adkins.

The award offered by the Governor’s office, combined with the Houston Crime Stoppers award of $5,000 will bring the total amount to $15,000.

Following a car crash around 2:00 A.M. on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Houston, an unknown gunman opened fire on the vehicle De’Maree was traveling in, resulting in her death.

Police are searching for a suspect in the aggravated robbery of the Chevron Food Mart located at 2323 Lutcher Dr. in Orange Feb. 25, reports the Orange Police Department (OPD).

On Monday, Feb. 27, at about 12:30 a.m. Beaumont Police conducted a traffic stop in the 5100 block of I-10 S.

During the stop, officers located about 23 grams of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy) and about 17 ounces of suspected marijuana, Officer Haley Morrow reported.

The three occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. They were transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

The suspects are identified as Jamie Butler, 24, Eddie Melton, 36, Tyrohnda Saffold, 26, all from Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Update, Feb. 27:

The inmate who was rushed to the hospital after reportedly being found hanging in her cell Feb. 24 has died, reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

According to an update from Criminal Investigator and Public Information Officer Janois Grizzaffi, Rosa Bonilla, 35, was pronounced deceased at Christus St. Elizabeth’s hospital on Sunday, February 26, at approximately 12:29 p.m. Bonilla had been transported to the hospital Friday night after she was discovered.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Feb. 24 that Ramon Anthony Montoya, 31, of Beaumont, Texas, was found guilty by a jury for the first-degree offense of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The jury assessed Montoya’s punishment at 99 years confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Montoya was formally sentenced by Judge John B. Stevens, Jr.

The jury assessed Spencer’s punishment at 20 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Spencer was formally sentenced by Judge Raquel West.
