A Beaumont man is behind bars on Capital Murder charges following the sexual assault and murder of a local homeless woman, reports the Beaumont Police Department. 

Officer Carol Riley reports that police have arrested 26-year-old Brandon Julian Jamol Coleman for the murder of 54-year-old Catherine Dungan.

June 5, the Lake Charles Police Department was dispatched to a local business regarding a male suspect performing a lewd act in the presence of a female juvenile victim.

The suspect was identified as 38-year old Jesus Garcia Lara from Houston. An arrest warrant for obscenity and indecent behavior with a juvenile was issued and signed by Judge Ron Ware.

June 23, the Lake Charles Police Department arrested Lara at his place of employment in Sulphur, Louisiana. He is being held on a $20,000 bond for indecent behavior with a juvenile and a $7,000 bond for obscenity.

Monday, June 26, at about 12:53 a.m., Beaumont Police officers were patrolling the parking lot of Petro at 5405 Walden Road.

The officers made contact with the driver of a silver Dodge Charger and sensed a heavy odor of marijuana. K-9 Gus and his handler responded to the scene to assist. Investigation revealed a black trash bag containing 26.8 pounds of marijuana.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as George Stevenson, 42, from Pascagoula, Mississippi, was transported and booked into the Jefferson County Jail for possession of marijuana.

NASA has achieved a significant milestone in its effort to make supersonic passenger jet travel over land a real possibility by completing the preliminary design review (PDR) of its Quiet Supersonic Transport or QueSST aircraft design. QueSST is the initial design stage of NASA’s planned Low Boom Flight Demonstration (LBFD) experimental airplane, otherwise known as an X-plane.

Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 6:20 p.m., Beaumont police responded to Collier’s Ferry Park at 5360 Pine St. in reference to body being located. Overnight, detectives were able to identify the victim as Catherine Jane Dungan, a 54-year-old Beaumont woman. At this time, BPD has been unable to locate next of kin. Detectives are following several leads; however, anyone who was in the area of Collier’s Ferry Park between the hours of 5-6 p.m. Saturday is asked to call the Beaumont Police Department at (409) 832-1234.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division received information from the Pompano Beach Police Department in Florida that a fugitive from their jurisdiction was staying in the Beaumont area.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an escape that occurred at the Hardin County Jail.

Donavin Michael Cantwell, 28, was charged with the felony offenses of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading detention and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

June 22 at about 5 a.m., Cantwell was able to move past guards and exit the jail during the morning feeding activity. Video surveillance captured the event.
