The Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School Mock Trial Team participated in the 36th annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in March. Twenty-eight high school teams from across Texas competed in Dallas, arguing a hypothetical court case. These teams, which emerged as the best in their school districts/regions, were matched against one another, culminating in a final championship round Saturday evening at the Earle Cabell Federal Building.

Investigators are searching for the suspect or suspects responsible for a fire in Beaumont on March 31, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue.

According to a news release, Beaumont firefighters responded to a report of a house on fire at 1405 Pipkin Street on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they discovered a rear bedroom involved by fire. They entered the dwelling and were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

March 29, Ward 1 City Council candidate Claude Guidroz proudly announced his recent endorsement from the Beaumont Police Officers Association in the May 9 election. According to a news release from the candidate's staff, officers of the association voted unanimously to support Guidroz for the Ward 1 seat.

A weekend accident claimed the life of a Beaumont man, the Beaumont Police Department reports.

Beaumont city offices will be closed for Good Friday on April 3, announced the city March 30.

According to a news release, city offices, including Water Customer Service and all library branches, will be closed for the holiday. Libraries will also be closed Saturday, April 4.

There will be no interruption in garbage, heavy trash, yard waste collection or landfill services on Friday, April 3, and the city’s landfill will be open during regularly scheduled hours.
