A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted a Nederland woman on three counts of forgery for allegedly altering and cashing 17 checks from her former employer’s personal bank account, totaling more than $22,000, at a convenience store.

A West Orange elementary school teacher has been placed on leave after allegedly duct taping a first-grade student to the chair before spring break. According to reports, the allegation was not made known to officials until the week of March 27.

West Orange-Cove CISD spokesperson Lorraine Shannon issued a statement on behalf of the district confirming an educator is on leave pending investigation but stated that procedure would not allow for the release of much information at this point.

Come Monday, April 3, the Ford Park Entertainment Complex will be under new management, according to contract amendments filed in Jefferson County Commissioners Court on Monday, March 27. The original terms during contract negotiations would have meant new venue management provider Spectra taking over the helm of Ford Park on March 31, but an extension was necessary pursuant to an agreement to give certain notice to outgoing management company SMG.

Three Mid-County men have been indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury in separate cases on charges ranging from physical to sexual violence against children and, in one of the cases, against an intellectually challenged 20-year-old.

Charles Orlando Betancourt, 31, of Port Neches was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child March 29 stemming from accusations he sexually assaulted his 3-year-old daughter on multiple occasions.

According to Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Cory Kneeland, a March 15 indictment on one count of third-degree felony theft has been dropped against Beaumont Independent School District special education teacher Alisa Boutte. Kneeland said the prosecuting agency came into information that caused the District Attorney’s Office to drop all charges the week of March 27.
