The City of Beaumont received $3,112,640 in June 2017, City Manager Executive Assistant Chris Jarmon announced July 18 in a statement.

Jarmon explained that this is 7.47% more than the city received in July 2016.


On July 15 at about 12:15 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a one vehicle rollover crash on US 96 in Hardin County, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release. The crash occurred approximately two miles north of Silsbee.


Monday, July 17, at about 12:19 a.m., Beaumont police responded to the 200 block of Rosine Street in reference to a victim of a shooting, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

Preliminary investigation reveals that two individuals were in front of a residence when they were approached by a man who displayed a handgun and attempted to rob the victims.

During the robbery, the suspect shot one of the victims, who was able to return fire. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries; it is unknown if the suspect was injured.

Saturday, July 15, at 5:54 a.m., Beaumont Police responded to a residence in the 3800 block of Park Street, in reference to assisting EMS with a medical call, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

When officers arrived on scene they located a deceased male, identified as Eric Benell Dove, a 45-year-old Beaumont man. Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide and believe that the crime may have occurred between the hours of midnight and 2 a.m.


A man is dead following a crane accident near Motiva Port Arthur Refinery that occurred Thursday, July 13.

Port Arthur Police Department reports that it responded to an accident at MLK and Terminal road near the Motiva plant at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday to find that a crane had fallen on an individual. PAPD reports that Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the man to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, where he was pronounced dead.

A 20 year old Beaumont, Texas man was sentenced to federal prison for violating the terms of his probation in the Eastern District of Texas, Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston announced July 13.

A 56-year-old Sherman, Texas doctor has been arrested on federal drug conspiracy charges in the Eastern District of Texas, Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston announced July 12.

Sherman is north of Dallas near the Texas/Oklahoma border.

James “Jimmy” Scales

Bridge City Municipal Judge James “Jimmy” Scales, 65, died July 8, 2017, when his riding lawnmower rolled over on him as he was mowing a ditch in Bridge City.

Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School has announced its school board members for the 2017-2018 school year. Mark Phelan will serve as School Board chair. New members include Jeremy Saba and Jackie Simien. Larry Dale Allen Sr., 62, formerly of Lumberton, died July 7, 2017.  

Born in Beaumont on May 6, 1955, Larry is the son of J.D. Allen Sr. and Adelle Thompson Allen of Lumberton. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Allen, and son Chase Douglas Allen.
