Beaumont Independent School District's South Park Middle School was placed on lockdown shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday. According to district representative Nakisha Myles Burns, shots were fired in the area. "Students are safe and secure," she said. "BISD police are on the scene." The lockdown was lifted around 30 minutes later.

Two longtime Beaumont Independent School District administrators are leaving the district effective immediately – Dr. Shirley Bonton, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and Dr. Dwaine Augustine, assistant superintendent for secondary education.

With a demonstration of teamwork, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and the Beaumont Police Department captured a burglar in Beaumont’s South Park neighborhood the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to Officer Tony Harding.

Aggravated Perjury charges have been filed against Michael Outley and Clarence Griffin, both of Beaumont. The charges arose out of their testimony in the Drug Impact Court of Jefferson County on November 2, 2015. Prosecutors allege that in an attempt to secure a new trial for Outley, both Outley and Griffin testified to facts, which were found to be untrue and fabricated.

Effective Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 7 a.m., the eastbound lanes at Avenue A and Washington Boulevard will be closed to traffic until Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 5 p.m. This closure will allow the Washington Capital Project to install storm sewer line facilities in the south side of the intersection. Two-way traffic will remain in the westbound lanes.
