Vidor Mayor Robert Viator is asking for patience from citizens impacted by the closure of East Tram Road due to road damage caused by construction as Walmart expands its existing store at the location into a Supercenter – a $15.4 million project.

Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst sent notice in March that the road would be closed for approximately 7 to 10 days as dump trucks brought about 8,000 loads of dirt to the construction site via East Tram. A short time later, the city sent notice stating the road would be closed indefinitely due to potentially hazardous conditions.

Even though he paid out three-quarters of a million dollars to the Beaumont Independent School District earlier this year to settle a civil lawsuit brought by his former employer, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Gayle Botley was not making any concessions when he fought to keep his professional license this week in Austin.

On June 25 at about 6:00 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a local hospital in reference to a woman who had arrived with chest pains. When deputies arrived, they were notified by hospital staff that the victim had several puncture wounds to her head and face area.

UPDATE, June 30: Police have arrested and charged a local man with the murder of Cedathion Dill. According to Officer Carol Riley of the Beaumot Police Department, June 30 investigators arrested Darius Trevon Gardiner, a 24-year-old Beaumont man, in relation to the shooting incident that claimed Dill's life a day earlier.

Police are investigating the shooting death of a 35-year-old Beaumont man that occurred on Magnolia Street in an area that has been recently rocked by gun violence, reports the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested John Aaron Burney, 43, of Palestine, on one count of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony. Burney could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

A Beaumont man is behind bars on Capital Murder charges following the sexual assault and murder of a local homeless woman, reports the Beaumont Police Department. 

Officer Carol Riley reports that police have arrested 26-year-old Brandon Julian Jamol Coleman for the murder of 54-year-old Catherine Dungan.

June 5, the Lake Charles Police Department was dispatched to a local business regarding a male suspect performing a lewd act in the presence of a female juvenile victim.

The suspect was identified as 38-year old Jesus Garcia Lara from Houston. An arrest warrant for obscenity and indecent behavior with a juvenile was issued and signed by Judge Ron Ware.

June 23, the Lake Charles Police Department arrested Lara at his place of employment in Sulphur, Louisiana. He is being held on a $20,000 bond for indecent behavior with a juvenile and a $7,000 bond for obscenity.

Monday, June 26, at about 12:53 a.m., Beaumont Police officers were patrolling the parking lot of Petro at 5405 Walden Road.

The officers made contact with the driver of a silver Dodge Charger and sensed a heavy odor of marijuana. K-9 Gus and his handler responded to the scene to assist. Investigation revealed a black trash bag containing 26.8 pounds of marijuana.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as George Stevenson, 42, from Pascagoula, Mississippi, was transported and booked into the Jefferson County Jail for possession of marijuana.

NASA has achieved a significant milestone in its effort to make supersonic passenger jet travel over land a real possibility by completing the preliminary design review (PDR) of its Quiet Supersonic Transport or QueSST aircraft design. QueSST is the initial design stage of NASA’s planned Low Boom Flight Demonstration (LBFD) experimental airplane, otherwise known as an X-plane.
