Firecracker is a flame point Siamese mix. He will be a year old in November and has been in foster care since January. He is very socialized and plays with other cats and dogs, large and small. Being a kitten, he is very playful. Firecracker has “feline carbohydrate syndrome,” meaning he has to have foods that have no grain. Firecracker is ready for a loving home and family that is willing to commit and go extra mile and give him the proper diet.
Special Prosecutor Josh Schaffer told The Examiner he has yet to receive word as to when and where a trial will be held for four Jefferson County officials and former officials charged with crimes including tampering with physical evidence to affect the outcome of a criminal prosecution and using county material and personnel for private gain.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs has awarded a $1.25 million grant to the Department of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education at Lamar University. The focus of the grant is to prepare teachers for deaf and hard of hearing students in kindergarten through 12th grade who have additional disabilities. During the five-year project, students will receive full funding to complete their masters’ in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education at LU.

George Andrew Casseb Sr., 64, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on Nov. 1, 1951, in San Antonio, to Constance and George Casseb, and had been a longtime resident of the area.
Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.
“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.
A 20-year-old Port Arthur woman has been indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for two felony offenses of leaving the scene of an accident after she hit a moped carrying two teens, resulting in one’s death and the other’s serious bodily injuries on Feb. 21.
