BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals sponsored participation in the You Be The Chemist Chal

For the first time, BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LLC sponsored the You Be The Chemist Challenge (YBTC) at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Arthur. The challenge, developed by the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF), is a question-and-answer competition that allows students to test their knowledge of chemistry concepts as they compete to represent their state on a national level.

An Orange County Sheriff's Office detective has resigned amid a federal investigation, Sheriff Keith Merritt confirmed March 10.

OCSO Detective Chad Hogan, the office's public information officer, turned in his letter of resignation March 10 after federal investigators showed up at his place of work looking for him. Federal agents also raided his home in the morning before interviewing at the sheriff's office.

The City of Beaumont’s Recreation Division will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 19, starting at noon. The hunt will be held in Magnolia Park at 2855 Magnolia. As part of the largest single-day, private-sector pay increase ever, more than 1.2 million Walmart and Sam’s Club associates in the U.S., including 29,777 in Southeast Texas and more than 146,463 in the state of Texas, will receive a pay raise in their March 10 paycheck. The increases are part of the company’s two-year, $2.7 billion investment in higher pay, better training, clearer career paths and additional educational opportunities for its workers. Walmart associates are eligible for quarterly cash bonuses based on the performance of their store.

The Beaumont Public Health Department celebrated its grand opening Thursday, March 3, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Health Department employees moved into the new facility at 3040 College Street in January.
