At about 7:19 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, officers with the Beaumont Police Department arrived in the 2200 block of Sweetgum Lane in response to a reported disturbance involving a man shooting a handgun. Upon arrival, officers learned from witnesses involved in the disturbance that the shooter, 36-year-old Gerald Downs of Beaumont, was nearby in the vicinity.

A tire blow-out caused a head-on collision near Warren early this morning, sending an elderly man to the hospital.

Just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, a 17-year-old male was driving himself and a 13-year-old passenger to school in Warren in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck. The driver was traveling westbound on FM 1943 when approximately four miles east of Warren, a tire blow-out on his truck caused the driver to veer into the eastbound traffic lane, colliding head-on with a 2006 Ford pickup truck.

A new law aimed at reducing repeat drunk driving offenses and saving lives on Texas roadways officially goes into effect Tuesday, Sept. 1, just ahead of one of the busiest traffic weekends of the year.

However, due to a board policy currently in place, only one of the attendees was allowed to address the topic of concern.
