Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced in a statement Nov. 27 that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested David Ray Gardner, 57, of Brady, last week on two counts of Possession of Child Pornography, a third-degree felony.


ExxonMobil put out an early morning fire at its Beaumont refinery crude unit Tuesday, Nov. 28. The fire was reported around 6 a.m. on the south side of the refinery.

"Onsite responders quickly extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries," said Ashley Alemayehu, Beaumont Area Public and Government Affairs Manager for ExxonMobil Corporation.

Initial air quality monitoring shows no off-site impact, Alemayehu said.

Arbitration hearing of Mickey Sterling

Fired Port Arthur Det. Mickey Sterling’s arbitration hearing continued into its third day Nov. 16. But with no end yet in sight, arbitrator Don Hays postponed the hearing, and time will be set aside for him to hear the rest of the story at a later date. Hays indicated he hopes he will get the whole truth, and he is taking measures to ensure that he does.

Police didn’t find a burglar when they responded to a burglar alarm at Popeyes restaurant on Phelan Boulevard on Monday, Nov. 27, at 4:15 a.m., but they did find a fire, Beaumont Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Blanchard said in a release.

Beaumont Police patrol officers notified the fire department, and the fire crews arrived within minutes, according to Blanchard.

“The fire crews made quick work of a fire in the kitchen of the restaurant,” Blanchard said. “There were no injuries.”

The business will be closed until repairs can be made.


Two Jasper men were arrested on drug charges early Nov. 21 after the Jasper Police Department SWAT Team executed a narcotics search warrant on a residence in the 2400 block of Wheeler Street, reports Lt. G.W. Foster of the Criminal Investigations Division.

According to Jasper PD, the search warrant was issued as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Jasper PD Narcotics Division and yielded drug paraphernalia, items used in the packaging and distribution of narcotics, and cocaine.

Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at approximately 09:15 am, the Vidor Police Dispatch Center received notification that the Louisiana State Patrol was in pursuit of a black Acura bearing North Carolina license plates at speeds in excess of 100 mph westbound on Interstate 10, according to a VPD press release.

Lamar senior Destiny Allain of Warren has received the Trjitzinsky Award from the American Mathematical Society in the amount of $3,000. Allain is one of seven recipients in the country to receive this scholarship.
