This week, Crime Stoppers needs your help in locating five fugitives wanted for drug charges.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting potentially dangerous dope dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes each week in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

The sheriff, his deputies, family and friends gave away toys to fulfill families’ Christmas wishes during the Orange County Blue Santa giveaway at the VFW in Orange on Dec. 17.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and community volunteers provided the parents of 437 children with gifts, including 93 bicycles.

Brian Sattler, director of public relations at Lamar University since 1989 and resident of Bridge City, was honored with the university’s 2016 Julie & Ben Rogers Community Service Award at a Dec. 6 program in the University Event Center of the Mary and John Gray Library.

The Rogers family established the award in 1979 to encourage Lamar University faculty and staff to volunteer their service and talents to the community.

The Beaumont Police Department completed its annual Santa in Blue rounds on Dec. 12. This year, the drive delivered presents to about 300 children, according to Officer Justin Proenza.

Proenza and his partner, Officer Tom Swole, have overseen the Santa in Blue drive for the past 14 years.

On Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 1:56 p.m., Port Arthur police officers responding to a 911 call discovered a 23 year old man shot in his upper arm at Louis Manor Apartments.

The victim's injuries are non life-threatening and he "could only provide limited information at this time," according to a statement from the Port Arthur Police Department. He was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital for treatment.

A suspect believed to be intoxicated at a local convenience store led Beaumont police officers on a car chase that ended with the man behind bars in a Louisiana jail Dec. 21, Officer Haley Morrow reports. 

According to a news release from Morrow, officers responded to the Speedy Stop at 8391 College At. at close to 1 a.m. in reference to an intoxicated person in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the suspect, who then fled the scene in his vehicle.
