Police have arrested a would-be thief who broke into a home near Beaumont’s Oaks Historic District.

On Sunday, Jan. 20, at about 9:53 p.m., police responded to a call that an African-American male with a red bandana covering his face had broken into a home in the 2200 block of Evalon Street.

According to a BPD press release, the homeowner was at the residence at the time and overpowered the suspect, forcing him from the home before calling police. A patrol officer responding to the area located a juvenile matching the description in the 2200 block of Ashley. Once the juvenile was arrested, the homeowner positively identified the youth, telling police he had just come to the home and asked to do yard work for the homeowner a few hours prior to breaking into his home.

The suspect was transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Center and will be charged with burglary of a habitation, according to a BPD press release.
