Full field for 10 set for Mother’s Day Stakes
The third week of the 2012 quarter horse season is underway, and the week will be headlined by the $25,000 Mother’s Day Stakes on Saturday, May 12. The full field is slated to run at approximately 9:40 p.m., which is listed as Race 9 on the program.
The field including post position along with jockey and trainer are 1 – Lindsays First Jewel (Danny Lavergne, Jose Garcia); 2 – Allusional Dash (Randy Edison, Anireal Chavira); 3 – Flying to the Line (Raul Ramirez Jr., Alberto Solis); 4 – Six Patriots (David Alvarez, Earl McDonald); 5 – Bang Bang Bang (Lucas Constantin, Kenny Roberts); 6 – Little Eye Opener (Eleazar Guillen, Jeff Acuna); 7 – Allure Sr (Gilbert Ortiz, Janet VanBebber); 8 – Flamboyant Chick (Jarrod Deschamp, William Little); 9 – Pantherinthefastlane (Alfonso Lujan, Vann Haywood); and 10 – Zoomin to Win (John Hamilton, Heath Taylor). Pantherinthefastlane and Little Eye Opener are the only two entries that are stakes winners.
The race is restricted to older open bred fillies and mares going 350 yards. Last year’s winner, Zoobilee, finished first in 17.463 (97 speed index) with Jeff Jerman riding for trainer Michael Zingelmann.
Also on the May 12 program will be two trials for the Delta Downs Derby as 14 runners will compete to qualify for the finals, which will be held on Saturday, June 2. The $100,000-added race is restricted to Louisiana bred 3 year olds who will race at 400 yards.
Two horses to pay attention to are last year’s $458,000 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity winner Little Bit Trashy and $60,000 Louisiana Juvenile winner Coors Selection, both of whom are trained by Janet VanBebber.
Four sets of trials were held for the Louisiana Laddie/Lassie and Old South Futurity/Derby last week at Delta Downs.

John Hamilton has a three-win lead in the jockey standings with nine wins in 42 starts. Rounding out the top five are Danny Lavergne with six, Eddie Cox and Jesse Chavis each with five and Donald Watson has four wins.
Kenny Roberts and Heath Taylor are tied among trainers with five wins as Roberts has started 32 horses compared to just 19 of Taylor’s. Frank Cavazos and Kevin Broussard have four wins and six other trainers each have two wins each.
