Local athletes sign scholarships

Emalee Carlton of Little Cypress-Mauriceville signed a track and field scholarship with New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Carlton placed second in the 20-4A track meet in shot put and was third in Area with a personal best throw of 35-00.00. She will begin her season in December but also participate in hammer and javelin.

Port Arthur Memorial’s Tre’Vaughn Dennis will play basketball at LeTourneau University in Longview and Brad Martin of Lumberton will also attend LeTourneau, but will play on the baseball team.

Travan Pryor of Ozen has signed to play college basketball at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Vidor’s Grant Allen signed with Lindenwood University in Belleville, Illinois to play basketball. Lindenwood-Bellville is a four-year school at the NAIA level. 

Three student-athletes from Hamshire-Fannett will move on to play college athletics. Austin Hamby will play soccer at Florida College in Temple Terrace, Florida. Jolie Basye will play volleyball for Arlington Baptist College and Emily Davis will compete on the equestrian team at Texas A&M.

Payton Hawley of Kountze will be a member of the Cedar Valley College volleyball team in Lancaster. CVC is a two-year community college.

Deondre Frank of Nederland and Brennan Beckett of East Chambers will play college basketball at McMurry University in Abilene.
