Silsbee Tigers one win away from state baseball tournament

The Silsbee Tigers will face the No. 1 ranked College Station High School tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Cougar Field on the campus of the University of Houston with the winner moving on to the Class 3A state baseball tournament next week in Austin.

The Tigers (24-7) defeated Caldwell in a best-of-3 series last weekend winning two games while losing one and College State had a score dropping the first game to Huffman before winning the next two.

Silsbee head coach Mike Nelson won the coin flip and elected to play a one-game series. The winner will advance to the Class 3A semifinals, which will be played on Wednesday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at UFCU Disch Faulk Field in Austin on the campus of the University of Texas. The 3A state title game is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Silsbee lost in the state semifinals last year to La Grange, who went on to win the 3A state title.
