Charity basketball

Harmony Science Academy (4055 Calder Ave.) in Beaumont will host a charity basketball game Thursday, Nov. 12, at 3:30 p.m. with members of the Beaumont Police Department trading their badges for basketballs.

“Playing the police is akin to having the ‘Globetrotters’ visit campus,” said Jeff Payne, the school’s Outreach Coordinator. “They could beat us soundly if they wanted to, but it’s all about having fun, and honoring our students, the officers and our community. In fact, the police officers will even add to our team with some of their players. Since we’re not yet in the thick of basketball season, besides the police helpers, our team will be comprised of students, teaching faculty and other staff.”

No admission fee is being charged for entrance to the event, and all proceeds raised from the sale of concessions will benefit local charities.
