UIL state track & field championships to host SETX athletes

The UIL track and field state championships will be held this weekend on Friday, May 9 and concluding on Saturday, May 10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.

On the boys side, class 5A qualifiers include the Port Arthur Memorial boys 4x100 meter relay team, which includes Jacorice Jones, Corey Dauphine, Kam Martin and Quantae Conners. Dauphine also qualified in the 200-meters and Taylor Labrie will participate in the long jump.

In Class 4A, Kaylon Sellers of Ozen will compete in the triple jump and Andrew Wells of Central qualified for the high jump

In 3A, Deionte Thompson of West Orange-Stark will attempt the high jump and will be one of four members in the 4x200 meter relay team along with Johnnie Shaw, Chris James and ThoMarcus Fontenot.

For the girls, Jordan Welborn of Lumberton will run the 1,600-meters in Class 4A.

Class 3A will have several representatives from the Golden Triangle including LaShya Cole of WO-S (triple jump), Kati Thornton of Bridge City (pole vault), Alexus Henry of Bridge City (high jump), Raegan Padgett of Hardin-Jefferson (200 meters), and Kaitlin McFarland of Hardin-Jefferson (shot put).

The Hardin-Jefferson 4x200-meter relay of Padgett, Taylor Aldrich, Kesha Broussard and Katelyn Holland also qualified.

Channiessey Fowler of Silsbee will run in the 100-meter dash.
